Inquiry Blog #7
This week is the final week of testing out different mindfulness techniques, and the theme for the week is ‘yoga/stretching.’ I have some mixed opinions on this technique because of my experiences in the past with it compared to now. But overall, I enjoyed doing it and might continue to do it frequently, just not as a mindfulness practice. Below are my 2 journal entries, and I have attached images of some of the stretches in “The Daily Limber” to use as a reference with my second journal entry.

Summary: For the first day, I followed along with an online guided yoga video and found it nice and relaxing. It helped to clear my mind a bit, but not as much as other practices did. I enjoyed being able to slow down and stretch because it isn’t something that I do very often. I figured that yoga would be hard to incorporate into a classroom because of the minimal amount of extra space that some classrooms have, as well as the time that would be available to do a practice like this. I think that it is still a good option for students to take a bit of a break, though, if a teacher can make it work.

Summary: I had mixed feelings about it because it turned out that yoga and stretching wasn’t as effective for mindfulness as I thought it would be. The first day was positive, the second day was more frustrating, then I created my own sequence from the third day onward, which was more relaxing. I found that I liked it because it felt good for my body rather than as a mindfulness technique, which it was supposed to be. I concluded that in a classroom setting it isn’t overly practical because of space and student abilities. Time isn’t as much of an issue as I originally thought. As I mentioned earlier, it could be a good movement break option or a way to lower students’ energy levels.
