Inquiry Blog #6
This week’s theme was ‘body scans’ which is a mindfulness strategy that I was initially skeptical about because I didn’t know what they were when I first heard of them at the start of this inquiry project. However, I ended up really enjoying it and found it to be the most effective mindfulness strategy for myself thus far, and can see it being really beneficial in the classroom as well. Below are my 2 journal entries from the week.

Summary: The first day doing body scans I found very enjoyable. I chose to follow along with an audio to make sure I knew fully what a body scan consisted of, but I found it too slow for me and ended up doing my own body scan at my own pace. Once I started my own body scan, I felt more relaxed. I found that, even after just the first day of trying body scans, it was a great option for myself, as well as use in a classroom. They can be done as a group or individually and don’t take very long which allows easy incorporation into busy lives and school schedules.

Summary: I had a very positve experience with body scans throughout the week and only have good things to day about it. They were very relaxing and simple. I was even having a really hard day one day this week, so I did a quick body scan, and it instantly calmed me down as soon as I started doing it. I found that this strategy can be very versatile, like I mentioned above, in how it can be quick, simple, done individually, or done as a group which are the reasons I liked it so much. This practice became my favourite one so far for both me as well as a classroom setting.
