Inquiry Blog #4
This week’s theme was ‘outdoor walks’ which I had mixed feelings about using as a mindfulness practice. Going for a walk can be a great way to step aside and regroup oneself. However, it might not always be effective in the way of mindfulness. I have attached my 2 journal entries from this week as well as a small summary next to them (I intended to take photos while out on my walks as well, but I forgot).

Summary: I enjoyed going for a walk while listening to music the first day, although it was raining out. So, I elected to go for a walk on a treadmill instead. I found that I preferred guided meditations as a mindfulness practice but figured it was too early to be certain. I was concerned about the amount of time available in a school day in order for a practice like this to be used in a classroom.

Summary: Throughout the week it was nice to get outside where I took walks in various environments. By the end of the week I had mixed feelings about using outdoor walks as a mindfulness practice because I found the mindfulness side of them to be very inconsistent for myself. The time of year could have been part of the reason for me not enjoying it as much. Springtime might be better. I still think that time is a concern for implementing this into classrooms and I see it more as a regrouping strategy rather than a mindfulness strategy in schools.
