Inquiry Blog #1

Welcome to my inquiry project! For my project, I chose to do it on mindfulness. The reasoning behind it is that I took a class in high school called ‘yoga and mindfulness’ which I quite enjoyed taking. I found it to be quite relaxing and found myself feeling more at ease both in the class and outside of it. Since the course came to an end, I haven’t been keeping up with those practices that we would do. However, I would love to incorporate those practices and feelings back into my life, and what better time to start than now, for this project?

My process for the inquiry project is to first explore the different ways that are recommended for incorporating mindfulness into one’s daily life because there are many options out there. Next, I will choose one approach to do each week and record how I feel at the start of the week, as well as how I feel at the end of the week. For example, one week I would do a guided meditation every day, then the next week I would go for a walk every day. By the end of the project I am hoping to figure out the best mindfulness practice for myself, as well as the effect that each practice has on me.

Not only will my findings through this inquiry project help me in my personal life, but I am hoping that I can utilize some of these practices into my future classroom. For example, if I have a class that is high energy, I might want to use some of these practices to bring that energy level down a bit, or if my class is just having a hard day, I can use one of these methods to give the students a bit of a break.
